Port Kembla Harbour

The Port Kembla Harbour Environment Group’s (PKHEG) main focus is to promote and improve the environment in and around the Harbour.

The group was formed in December 1990 with the inaugural meeting of the Port Kembla Harbour Catchment Management Committee (PKHCMC). Membership of the Committee comprised of representatives from community, industry, local and state government organizations.

Since the Group’s inception a large number of significant improvements have been made in the management of wastewater streams, air and land pollution.

The committee now includes representatives from the University of Wollongong and works closely with the Illawarra Catchment Management Committee (ICMC) whose activities also include monitoring of the adjacent catchment areas, covering approximately 50 square kilometres.
